Why

should I

adopt a pet?

When you adopt a pet, you are saving a life. Whether you’re just looking, or you’re ready to adopt, we’re here to provide the necessary information make adoption an easy choice.

Adoption Information

Thank you for considering adopting from Lucky Chance Rescue.  We offer a variety of pets that you won’t find anywhere else. We have specific breeds and also the greatest designer mutts you’ll ever find.  Our rescue dogs and cats live in foster homes so they can adjust to being part of a loving family.  Our priority is to ensure the pet you want to adopt will be a perfect fit for your home and your family.   We will always try our best to find a pet that will complete your family.

  • Are there any adoption requirements?

    Yes!

All adoptions require a completed application.  No Exceptions!

We only adopt to families within 1 hour (60 miles) of St. Louis/St. Charles areas to make transportation feasible for our fosters and volunteers.

We do not offer same day adoptions from our fosters or at adoption events. All pets must be properly vetted (vaccinated, altered and chipped) and home visits must be done before any pet can be adopted

Adoption donations are NON-REFUNDABLE, and tendered as a taxable donation to Lucky Chance Rescue

There will be no rehoming, selling or abandoning your pet once you have adopted from us. All pets must come back to Lucky Chance Rescue should you not be able to keep them for any reason. We must have minimum 2 weeks to find a foster home for your pet.  If you take them to a shelter or rehome your pet there may be a fine of up to $1000 imposed as part of the recovery process.

  • How do I pick the right pet?

We have awesome dogs and cats of all ages, sizes and breeds so finding a pet that matches your lifestyle, home and family should be easy. Please take into consideration how much time you will have to spend with your pet, the amount of training you want to do and that you can commit to your new pet for at least 15 years.

Be sure to read the bios on each pet available to adopt. We will include information such as; activity level, shedding, whether they are good with cats, dogs and children, if they need a home with a yard or are apartment appropriate, as well as personality traits that make them each unique.

  • Are pets for adoption healthy?

Yes! We will not adopt a pet to anyone under any circumstances until they have been given at least two rounds of vaccinations, have been altered and do not have any injuries or illness that need to be treated. Please check our Adoption Costs Page for a detailed list of all vetting we provide prior to adoption.

  • What Steps Do I Take to Start The Adoption Process?

Search our website to find your first and second choice. It’s always good to have an alternate in case your first choice has a pending application or is not the right fit for you.

Complete our adoption application in entirety or we will be unable to process your application.

Once you submit your application, it will be sent to the foster coordinator and foster.  Please give us at least 48 hours to review your application. Someone will contact you to let you know if the dog or cat is available and get to know you a little better. We are all volunteers, so please be patient while we complete the application process.

  • What happens when my application is approved?

Upon approval of your application, a home visit and meet & greet will be scheduled.

If you and the foster/foster coordinator agree to move forward with the adoption,  the foster will go through the adoption contract, teach you about blending your new pet with your family and other pets, give you training tips and other helpful information.

Payment must be made in full by check, cash or online via our website at time of adoption.

We do give you a two week trial period to give you time to completely fall in love with your new pet, or return the pet if you not be able to keep him/her for any reason.

After the two week trial period has ended, and you have made the commitment keep your new pet, Lucky Chance Rescue will send you all vet records and microchip information.

We ask you to keep in touch with us on our Lucky Chance Families Facebook Page as we love to see our rescued dogs & cats loving their new lives.

  • What happens if my application is denied?

There are some instances when your application will be denied, it could be that you are not in our adoption area, your application was not completed in entirety, your vet references or personal references did not recommend adoption at this time. You will receive an email with an explanation. You can contact us if there is something we missed or if you’d like to discuss your application in more detail.
