Foster Responsibilities

[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1498403250981{padding-top: 0px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Welcome to our team of dedicated fosters!  We are so glad that you have come to us to foster!  Foster care gives us a chance to really get to know the personalities of the dogs, and they do all have personalities! It also gives the dog an appropriate environment for learning and growth.

Please be sure to read the foster packet as it will give you step-by-step details on how to foster and what your responsibility are as a foster!   Aside from regular day-to-day care, the responsibilities of a foster are listed below.

Part of your role as a foster is to keep Stray Paws Rescue and potential adopters informed about your foster dog(s) via our website, social media and through word of mouth;  schedule vet appointments and take your foster dog(s) to the vet; bring your foster dog to adoption events;  contact references for potential applicants because nobody knows the dog as well as you do!; set up meet & greets and finalize the adoption process.  It may seem like a lot but we have created a process that will make this really easy for you!

Step 1:
Register as a foster on the website (If you are reading this on the site then you have already registered)!  Stray Paws Rescue will complete an intake form when we bring a new dog into your home.  That intake sheet will be emailed to our web developer so she can add the dog to our website.  Once your foster dog is on the website, you will receive an email with instructions to login to our foster area of the website.  There you will find everything you need to know and do as a foster! One of the most important tasks is updating photos and bio information for your foster dog through the simple online form. When adding the bio, keep it as short, sweet and positive and upbeat as possible,  ie.  if your dog needs training, let adopters know how well they are doing but need additional training.

Step 2:
Making sure your foster dog receives his/her shots, wellness checks and any medication or treatments necessary is an essential part of fostering.  Your foster coordinator will keep you informed about veterinarian appointments and authorize you to make necessary appointments around your schedule.  Please schedule all vet appointments within the necessary time frame.  Your foster coordinator will let you know this information.  You can choose 1 of 2 veterinarians closest to you.

Martin Veterinary Hospital
74 Francois Drive
Herculaneum, MO 63048
(636) 224-6224

Animal Medical Center of Wentzville
1120 W Pearce Blvd
Wentzville, MO 63385
(636) 332-4411

Once you have scheduled the vet appointment(s), you will need to complete the “Scheduled Vet Appointment” form to let us know when and where you will be taking your foster dog.

Step 3:
When we receive an adoption application for your foster dog, we will pre-approve the application to ensure they meet our initial requirements.  You and your foster coordinator will receive an email to let you know an application has been pre-approved along with a copy of the application.  It will be up to you to contact references to make sure they all check out.  If all is good, you can then set up a meet & greet and do a home visit.  There are instructions on how to do reference checks and home visits in the foster packet.  If you do not have a copy of the foster packet, ask your foster coordinator or download it from our website.

Step 4:
Finalizing an adoption is the easy part! Make sure you download the adoption packet and follow the instructions there.  Payment must be made by Paypal, Check or Cash at the time the adopter takes the dog.  When your foster dog has found his/her forever home your job is almost done!  The last step is to complete the Adoption Completed form on our website.  Once you have done this, Stray Paws will receive an automatic email letting us know the adoption is finalized. Our web developer will also receive an automatic email so she can post on the website that your foster dog is adopted!

We want you to have a wonderful and enjoyable foster experience so if there is anything you are unable to do please talk to your foster coordinator and he/she will help you along with this process.

Thanks again for everything you are doing to help our rescue dogs find their forever homes!
